HOSTS HYBRID 29TH WORLD CONGRESS, OCTOBER 21-23, 2021,
IN LISBON, PORTUGAL
Members of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) can now network in person with colleagues from around the world and participate in educational offerings led by experts in the field of hair restoration surgery as the ISHRS hosts its hybrid 29th World Congress in Lisbon, Portugal, October 21-23, 2021.
Since the start of the pandemic, the ISHRS COVID-19 Task Force has worked diligently to establish safety protocols to protect hair restoration patients and physicians’ practices and has done the same for those wishing to safely attend the annual conference.
For those who cannot participate in the meeting in-person, the ISHRS is offering an on-demand virtual format available in the weeks following the meeting that will include the popular new CSI Presentations (Cases, Studies, and Innovations) that replaces the traditional scientific poster presentations, and 24/7 on-demand access to recorded educational content from the in-person meeting from November 8, 2021, through February 8, 2022.
“Despite the extraordinary uncertainty we have been facing lately, the ISHRS is thrilled to welcome members back to our premier educational meeting — the annual world congress — thanks to the hard work of our COVID-19 officers, leadership and the cooperation of our members and colleagues who plan to participate,” said Marie A. Schambach, MD, FISHRS, program chair. “All of us are extremely grateful for this opportunity to meet with each other, learn from each other and enjoy each other’s company in-person again.”
The three-day meeting offers unmatched educational opportunities for hair restoration physicians. Ten general sessions are available, including a session on COVID-19 and Hair Loss. Several sessions will focus on surgical techniques, innovations, careful aesthetics when extracting and placing, and updates on biologics and new treatments. In-person attendees can also participate in four specialized Focus Sessions, a Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) Conference, and social events.
Another meeting highlight will be presentations by three world-renown speakers:
- Dr. Natasha Atanaskova Mesinkovska, Vice Chair for Dermatology Clinical Research at the University of California, Irvine, will speak on “Combining Deep Learning with Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging to Determine Scalp Hair and Follicle Counts”.
- Dr. Mohammad Jafferany, Clinical Professor at Central Michigan University and Director of the Psychodermatology Clinic will speak on “Psychotrichology: Psychiatric Aspects of Hair Disease”.
- Dr. Paul Kemp, Co-Founder, Chief Executive Director of HairClone, based in Manchester, UK, will speak on “The Evolution of the Promise of Hair Cloning, How Hair Cell Cloning Will Fit into Your Practice”.
There will be a session to provide updates on the Fight the FIGHT global consumer awareness campaign launched in 2019 (Fight the Fraudulent, Illicit Global Hair Transplants). As part of the campaign, the ISHRS has announced it will host the first “World Hair Transplant Repair Day” to be held November 11, 2021 (11/11). ISHRS physicians are reporting that more and more patients are showing up to their clinics who have been victims of botched hair transplant surgery from illicit clinics and looking to be corrected. “The stories and photos are heartbreaking,” said Victoria Ceh, MPA, ISHRS Executive Director. “So many young men have had their scalps literally butchered. Many are beyond repair. They are promised a full head of hair for a low price at these black-market clinics. Apparently, many probably do not realize that the people performing their surgery are not even doctors in most cases.”
The problem is growing and ISHRS members are using their expertise to try to help. On 11/11, World Hair Transplant Repair Day, participating ISHRS physician members will assist patients, when possible, who are victims of botched hair transplants from illicit clinics with free reparative surgery.
